J'ADORE

J'adore cake! I was in the city yesterday and decided to take my friends to one of my favourite patisseries, La Renaissance:

Address:

The Rocks
Sydney NSW 2000

Phone:

Opening hours:
8:30am - 6pm/7 days

Quiet and cute; next to Sydney's beautiful harbour, the ambience in the La Renaissance courtyard is wonderfully relaxing. There is a small eat-in surcharge and since the weather was fantastic yesterday, my friends and I took our delicacies to the harbour side.

MY ORDER: a slice of the pear and almond flan at $4 (take-away) and a dark chocolate truffle at $1.70 (take-away):

He he, here's a picture of me eating the truffle:

The flan was one of the best that I've ever had, with the pears perfectly caremelised and the pastry not sloppy and damp like you find at some places but it was the TRUFFLE that made the party in my mouth! Soft dark chocolate liquor mousse/ganache rolled in cocoa powder...not too sweet and not too heavy, it melted into a delicious goop on my tongue...mmMmMM!

I usually just have cake from the patisserie so yesterday was the first time I tried one of their truffles but I'll definitely be back for more! The store also sells savouries, including baguette sandwiches.

The cakes there are relatively cheap (starting at $25 cakes that serve approx. 6 people) and can be customised to size. For my sister's 21st, she ordered a giant cake serving 120 people!

Never having been to France, I don't know what to expect of French cuisine. However, while at La Renaissance, listening in on the busy sounds of French patissiers speaking in their native tongue and sipping on the popular French soft-drink, Orangina between bites of my quiche provencale, I close my eyes and fantasise that I'm sitting in a small cafe on the edge of the French Riviera.

He he, I leave you with pictures of some the artistic cakes at La Renaissance.
